Tobacco Mosaic CD Artwork
The imagery for this CD cover for Melbourne band Tobacco Mosaic depicts two photographs overlayed to create different effects. One photograph is of leaves found in the northern New South Wales hinterland, perfectly eaten by insects, representing both nature's decay, and the ironic graphic resemblance to a city's suburban grid. The other is of a piece of wall art found inside the bar Revolver that I'd been noticing for sometime. The wall is covered in stencil stamps of little red dolls heads, but two that face each other are rendered inaccurately, one looks cherub-like and the other is smudged evil. These images were combined to create an overall image of both the band's name and self-imposed medical condition known as tobacco mosaic.
